The MaineHealth Accountable Care Organization (MaineHealth ACO) is a collaborative network of 10 hospitals and over 1,400 physicians and other healthcare providers dedicated to improving healthcare in Maine and parts of New Hampshire by achieving quality outcomes, improving patient experience and reducing healthcare costs.

What is an Accountable Care Organization?

Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high-quality care to their patients.

The goal of coordinated care is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.
